My coloring books were a testimony to my talent for staying within the lines as a child until I began to question "why". This set the stage for direction and choices that I made in my life. I attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in the late 60's and later transferred to the DuCret School of Art with a focus in advertising. My path took a sudden detour with Vietnam and I enlisted in the Navy as a corpsman followed by a career in the medical field as a RN. Moving to Orange County awakened my appreciation for the natural surroundings . I became involved with a group of painters instructed by Lisa Specht , an instructor of the New York Art Students League. My artistic fires were re-ignited by her and I began to continue on my original path of my youth. Since that time I am continually searching for my individual means of expression which tends to focus on color, brushwork and strong use of light and shadow. I enjoy working in oil and pastel and prefer on site work because all my senses are involved in creating that particular piece of art work. My style lends itself toward impressionism but I let my subject dictate the handling of the piece.
Joining the Wallkill River School had afforded me the opportunity to become involved with other talented artists in the area and to be a part of the plein air experience which enhances my impressionistic approach to my art work. I have also become involved in the teaching aspect of my craft. My work has been exhibited in public places as well as purchased by private collectors.
Gardening is my second passion and my gardens, home and many pets have been the subjects in my work. My artistic journey is always fulfilling to me as I experiment with new ways of looking at things and different approaches in my media and style.
